The Audi A3 has an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB), as shown in the picture below, located beside the gear shift.
To release the parking brake, follow these steps:
Push down on the button
Switch the gear to D (Drive)
To engage the parking brake, follow these steps:
Shift the gear to P (Park)
Pull the button up
