The Kia Optima K5 has an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB), as shown in the picture below, located beside the gear shift.
To release the parking brake, follow these steps:

Push down on the button.

Switch the gear to D (Drive).
To engage the parking brake, follow these steps:

Shift the gear to P (Park).

Pull the button up.
